Founded by a group of parents from the Fairmount section in Philadelphia in 1962, FSA has evolved into a non-profit organization consisting of adult volunteers dedicated to improving the quality of life for Fairmount kids and other inner city youth to include families from the surrounding areas of Philadelphia. FSA is located in the heart of beautiful center city, at 23rd & Pennsylvania Ave, along the Ben Franklin Parkway. The playing fields are named, "Von Colln Fields" because they are dedicated to a fallen officer from the Philadelphia Park Police Department.
FSA provides kids with the opportunity to participate in little league baseball and softball during the spring and early summer months and also provides young kids with an opportunity to participate in organized basketball leagues during the later fall and winter months.FSA is managed by an all-volunteer staff in the form of a board of directors. FSA's baseball season and softball season typically begins in mid April and ends in early July; basketball season typically starts in mid November and ends in February. Our goal is to provide a positive learning and a fun filled baseball, softball and basketball experience for girls and boys between the ages of 4 and 15 years old, families included. Fairmount Sports Association has a batting cage which is set up in early March and disassembled in late June to avoid any hazards with the July 4 celebration on the parkway to help the kids with their hitting skills. Volunteer baseball and softball clinics are administered during the regular season at minimal costs along with other fun, free instructional activities. FSA is comprised of dedicated coaches with some having high school coaching experiences, CYO coaching backgrounds and other team sport experiences to better help the kids. Fairmount Sports Association also provides youngsters with the opportunity to play "travel" baseball and softball by participating in Peanut League play, City Wide A Baseball and Softball leagues. The softball travel teams usually participate in tournaments to include Gloucester City NJ and Runnemeade NJ. The boys travel league experiences have included Devlin League, Babe Ruth, Walt Disney World Wide World of Sports, and Cooperestown NY tournaments. League fees are $80 per player plus a required pants (uniform deposit) of $20 which is provided back at the end of the season. A $5 discount is available is registered by the end of the first weekend of February 2010. Travel fees are seperate and cost $50 per player plus a refundable uniform deposit of $50. |
